A VISIT TO THE FAMILY HISTORY LIBRARY

A Great Opportunity during your stay in Salt Lake City!

For those NCTA Conference attendees who would be interested in tracing their ancestors and family history, the largest genealogical library in the world is located just up the street from the Conference Hotel – less than half a mile away!

The Library hours are from 8:00AM until 5:00PM on Monday, July 30, and from 8:00AM until 9:00PM on Tuesday, July 31, through Saturday, August 4, 2007.

A little advance preparation is necessary for you to succeed in your search, and volunteers are always available to assist you. There is no charge to use the library, and no “library card” is needed. All are welcome!

Before you come, you will need to write down what you know about your parents and their parents, as far back as you can. This is best accomplished by filling in pedigree and family group sheets which are available electronically. For specific information, go to www.familysearch.org and then look on the right side of the page under the heading “Getting Started With Family History.” Click on the link entitled “How Do I Get Started?” It will bring up six short lessons that you should go through. On the left side of the page is the link to print the pedigree and family group sheets you will need.

Prior to the conference, we have made arrangements for you to go to the Library on Monday, July 30, until 5:00PM and, if you are not in a pre-conference workshop, on Tuesday, July 31, all day (except for the opening reception which starts at 6:30PM). On Thursday evening, we are invited to attend a rehearsal of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, but the Library is still open if you have been “hooked!” The Conference ends at 1:00PM on Friday, but if you plan your flight home in advance, you can also visit the library on that day or on Saturday until 9:00PM.

IMPORTANT: If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity to visit the Family History Library, please send an e-mail to Bud Wood, NCTA Conference Chair, at bud@byu.edu no later than July 15, 2007, so he can help coordinate your visit.
